We fight while others don't even talk about it

Declaration of non-collaboration with doctors and scientists in China

The signatories of this document declare the following:We note with concern that these practices, which we regard as unethical, continue to be carried out in China:

  • Forced birth control, sterilisations and abortions
  • Forced harvesting of organs
  • Mass DNA collection

Although we recognise that most individual doctors and scientists are not directly involved with these practices, and may not even be aware of them, it is clear that they could not continue without the cooperation of many professionals and  the tacit complicity of professional bodies at an institutional level.

In these circumstances, we cannot continue to regard doctors and scientists in China as our professional colleagues. Until such time as Chinese medical and scientific institutions take robust action to prevent these practices from occurring  we declare that we will no longer collaborate with doctors and scientists in China. We will not engage in collaborative projects with them, we will not submit applications for funding jointly with them, we will not attend conferences in China and we will not support the publication of research carried out in China by providing peer review for submitted manuscripts.

Each of us has signed this declaration in an individual capacity. The declaration does not necessarily reflect the views of our employers or host institutions.
